Overview & Specs
This is a pretty standard fishtank build with RGB running rainbow chaos, but the tilted GPU is what'll have you looking twice. EVGA put this 3080 on the same radiator as their 3070, just with thicker fans, so thermals have always been a bit of a fight. Stock vertical mount had it hitting 83C, so I swapped to a Lian Li VG4v4, tilted it forward, temps dropped to 78C. Still warm and loud under load (fighter jet cockpit vibes), but with that and a full PTM7950 repaste and repad, this is about as good as it gets.
LGA1700 is finished for new CPUs, but 13th and 14th gen are still fair game if you find one on sale, and the BIOS is already updated to support whatever you drop in. Between the B tier SAMA 850W PSU¹ (native 450w 12V2x6 connector) and the included PCIe 5.0 riser (the board supports it too) you've got full freedom on GPU placement down the line.
RGB runs through SignalRGB, which has a solid free effects library plus the option to buy individual effects once and keep them forever — none of it required to run the system. The FURY Beast RAM is the one weak spot here. It doesn't sync well with RGB software in general at higher brightness and tends to drift out of step with the rest of the lighting, most obvious in the 4th photo. It blends in best on the busier rainbow chaos presets, which is honestly part of why I went a little overboard on the infinity mirror fans.
Specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-12600KF (10C/16T - Arctic MX-7)
- GPU: EVGA XC3 ULTRA GAMING RTX 3080 10GB (PTM7950 Repaste + Repad)²
- RAM: Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3733 CL22
- Storage: WD Black SN770 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD
- Motherboard: MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700
- PSU: SAMA GT 850W 80+ Gold Fully Modular¹
- Case: Lian Li O11 Dynamic Mini V2 ATX Mid Tower
- Cooling: PC Cooler DE360 MAX BK 360mm AIO
- Connectivity: Built-in WiFi 6 + Bluetooth 5.2
- Extras: Lian Li VG4v4 Gen 5 Vertical GPU Mount, HU-8 Fan Hub
This system comes with a fresh Windows 11 Home installation (other than preinstalled apps³) and will require initial setup on first boot.
¹Rated B tier on the SPL PSU Tier List. No zero-fan mode, so it's pretty loud at idle.
²The tilted bracket limits you to two display outputs, HDMI and DisplayPort. If multi-monitor is a priority, this probably isn't the build for you.
³Preinstalled apps include NVIDIA App, Steam, SignalRGB, and SanDisk Dashboard.
*Learned the hard way (RIP my table) that this case was missing two feet. I replaced all of them, and I'm including 4 extra pads if you'd like to size up.
