The Black Box

The Black Box was built to serve as a simple gaming rig for someone looking for a console alternative. Its a smaller package than a normal M-ATX case and would fit easily on top of a desk or on an entertainment center.

It features an Intel i7-8700 being cooled by a ThermalRight low profile 120m cooler. The system runs 16GB of DDR4 RAM. The GPU is a single fan 6GB Geforce GTX 1660ti. The GPU is used but was fully disassembled, cleaned, and new thermal pads and paste were applied.

The Black Box is built in a Jonsbo C6 mesh case with 4 120mm fans. The top and bottom fans bring in cool fresh air to the CPU cooler and GPU. The 2 front fans are set up to exhaust hot air out of the case. The PSU is oriented to intake cool are from the side of the case and vents hot air out of the back. ore fans allows them to spin slower (quieter) while moving more air than the original 3 fan design.

During gaming sessions and the one hour stress test temps seem to sit between 65-71c and when boosting I’ve seen temps climb to 74-75c. Warmer than a larger setup for sure but nowhere near thermal throttling.

The system has been stress tested with OCCT to ensure it functions as it should. I then run some games to get benchmarks and ensure no other issues come up.

This rig is ideal for 1080p gaming. With a top tier i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB mSATA SSD, this machine is also great for homework and everyday PC use. It can even be used as a couch potato rig!

Every 12's Garage PC comes with a fresh Windows 11 install that is fully activated. I also preload Steam and any necessary drivers. All you have to do is plug it in and download your games!

Fortnite

• Performance Medium - 165 fps
• Performance Low / Far - 200fps

GTA V Enhanced

• Very High - 100 fps
• Will play 1440 smooth with a 60fps cap

DOOM 2016

• I didn’t get stats because it played so well I forgot to record them

ARC Raiders

• Low settings - 60fps
