XFX RS RX 470 Triple X Best Buy Exclusive
Good for entry-level 1080p gaming, a Bazzite OS or media center build.
The build quality is solid. The backplate is rigid, which reduces GPU sag. The fans are hot-swappable. The card has been modded for improved cooling, with thermal pads connecting the PCB VRAM hotspot to the backplate, as recommended by Tom's Hardware.
- The card was re-pasted at least once.
- In the latter years of use, the card was undervolted.
- Fans are hot-swappable. The fans are worn and wobbly. Both are fully functional.
- Fan LED and Logo are white.
- Interface: PCI Express 3.0 x 16
- Memory: 4 GB GDDR5
- Output: 3 x DisplayPort 1.4a, 1 x HDMI 2.0b, 1x DVI
- Recommended PSU: 500W
- Recommended Resolution for Gaming: 1080p (Low to Medium performance)
Advanced testing results:
- Stable stock undervolt -80~100mV
- Achieved peak frequency 1426MHz with 1175mV
Lore: This is the second RX 470 because the first one I thought was DOA with random crashes. There were three physical factors affecting stability. Factory thermal paste was insufficient, leading to hotspots on the die causing random crashes. Over-torquing the heatsink also demonstrated instability. The 6-pin connector could get loose if agitated (such as kicking your case on the floor). A quality PSU should have better tolerances. All problems have been resolved and the card has been stable.
